Calvin Messinger
Bio
My name is Calvin Messinger, I graduated from BYU-Idaho, in illustration, and have been trying to get into the industry. I started this journey learning to draw f-14 tomcats and f-18 hornets from my Dad, then I drew funny comics about dinosaurs. Wasnt until I was 14 or 15 when I realized I wanted to get better at drawing. I was sick and tired of drawing my DnD characters as "glorified stick figures". One day I went to my dad, who studied painting in college, and asked him to teach me how to draw and paint better. Well, he was absolutely thrilled that I was interested in learning more! We stayed up every night past midnight that first week (even on school nights!), drawing and painting, and I got better! As I got more into drawing I started studying comic book masters, specifically Jim Lee, J. Scott Campbell, and Marc Silvesteri, among others. Then, my dad and I discovered this art competition, called Dominance War, where we saw the best art we had ever seen being put on display. Thats how we learned that concept art for video games and movies was a thing! I had never seen art that was that caliber before. So, at the age of 16 I vowed that I was going to be a concept artist, and Ive been working to get there ever since! My specialty is in doing orthographic and perspective based technical drawings of environments and props.
